Built For This Moment
When our product strategy, AI, and the market collided

Nine years ago, my Co-founders and I started Outseta with a simple thesis: launching a SaaS business shouldn't require stitching together so many tools. We'd handle the business infrastructure—payments, authentication, user accounts, email—so builders could focus on building.
That thesis hasn't changed, but the way people build has. And we've spent the last year rebuilding Outseta to meet the moment.
This means both:
- Making it easier to build products and websites with Outseta and AI
- Enabling AI agents to run areas of your business in lock-step with your team
This letter shares our perspective on this shift—and why Outseta is ridiculously well-positioned to provide foundational tools to AI builders.
Why Outseta, why now
Everyone in tech is rushing to be "AI-native" or “AI-enabled.” I get it—the more time I’ve spent building with AI, the clearer it’s become that the future of building anything on the web increasingly involves building with AI.
This so often represents a follow-the-herd mentality.
In the case of Outseta it’s felt a lot more like “damn, what we've built is suddenly perfectly aligned with what the market needs."
Yes, of course we want to move and evolve our company in the direction that the market is headed. But the things that have always made Outseta different now make it uniquely powerful for people building with AI.
If you've read anything I've written over the last decade, you know the ethos of Outseta has always been:
- We chose to solve long-term, durable, critical problems (payments, authentication, CRM, email)
- We said we'd spend 15+ years on it
- We thought if we stayed alive long enough, good things would happen
Now it feels we're at the point where the wisdom in those decisions suddenly decides to ring true.
Outseta is uniquely positioned for this shift in two specific ways.
- We solve the biggest activation problem AI builders face. Everyone who tries to build a business with AI hits the same wall: Stripe for payments, Clerk for auth, Resend for email (or similar variations). That's three integrations, three bills, three systems that don't talk to each other. Layer on CRM, help desk, and customer communications and you've got a fragmented mess that pulls you away from building product. I've watched semi-technical people try to prompt their way to the promised land; it's an absolute disaster. Outseta is one integration that solves this problem on day one.
- We have deeper context on your customers than almost anyone. AI tools are only as powerful as the context they have access to. Outseta is a single system of record that brings together payment data, customer data, support history, and user engagement. Most businesses are cobbling that together from five different systems. We have it unified by design—and that's exactly what makes AI agents actually useful.
I can't honestly say we planned for this. But when I look at what AI builders actually need, and what Outseta delivers, the fit is hard to ignore.
Agents are real. So are the humans running your business.
At the risk of being shunned from the cool kids room… I don't think we're headed for a purely "agentic future" where humans become spectators in their own businesses. Tech CEOs seem hellbent on one-upping each other with breathless "agents will do everything" announcements—but I don't think this reflects how businesses actually work.
My firmly held belief is that people are what make or break any business—I don't see that changing. AI is a tool that helps at an executional level.
What I do believe is that AI agents will increasingly handle real operational work—things like support, follow-ups, data analysis—and that software needs to serve both humans and the agents working alongside them. We're building Outseta for both.
Outseta gives both your team and your agents a single system of record with deeper context on your customers—as well as the operational tools both groups need to actually perform the work associated with running your business.
What we've actually built
We've rebuilt meaningful parts of the product to support this vision:
- A new MCP server that lets AI agents interact directly with your Outseta data
- New APIs that give AI builders the programmatic access they need
- AI-powered support features, including AI trained chat and automated drafts of support ticket replies (we're looking for beta testers)
- A complete overhaul of our billing infrastructure (launching soon!)
And perhaps the most important benefit of all; true business portability. Payments, login credentials, customer data, support history—it's all yours, and it can all come with you if you ever want to rebuild your product or site on the latest and greatest technology. At the rate that things are evolving this matters more than ever.
For our existing customers: nothing about your setup changes. Outseta still supports everything you rely on today. This is about where we're investing next.
We didn't pivot to this. We arrived here.
Nine years of building business infrastructure gave us something most AI-native startups don't have: a deep, battle-tested understanding of what "simple enough" actually means when normal people (and not just tech nerds!) start building digital businesses. We've seen what breaks. We know where people get stuck.
And while conventional wisdom said SaaS companies should go deep on one problem, we went wide—covering all the core functions required to run a small digital business. That was a contrarian bet for a long time. It turns out unified context is exactly what AI agents need to be useful. What once felt like a constraint became the whole point.
The shift we're seeing in the market today feels like culmination of everything we've been building toward, coming together at once.
The bet we're making
Eric Simons, CEO of Bolt, put it well:

Since we started Outseta we've defined our target market as "small digital businesses growing from start-up to $10M in annual revenue." We've always believed this "lower end" of the market was underserved. We now believe it's about to explode.
Nine years of building something sustainable—through all the turbulence of the last decade—put us in a position we couldn't have planned for: the right product, at the right time, with a team that's always been small, nimble, and self-sustaining by design.
What's available today
- A new homepage that reflects where we're headed
- A remote MCP server that's genuinely powerful
- New API docs built directly from our code base and published via Mintlify—the same familiar format used by Anthropic, Perplexity, and Lovable
We're building to make sure that Outseta is the best foundation for whatever you choose build next. I can't wait to show you what's still to come.
